Photodynamic Therapy
Photodynamic therapy (PDT) is a two-stage treatment that combines light energy with a drug (photosensitizer) designed to destroy cancerous and precancerous cells after light activation. Photosensitizers are activated by a specific wavelength of light energy, usually from a laser.
At Valley Dermatology and Aesthetics we use an FDA approved treatment for sun-damaged skin, this compact light source is used in conjunction with an aminolevulonic acid (LevulanĀ®) to help manage damaged skin. The medical benefits of BLU-UĀ® Light are well documented and can be used to treat actinic keratosis (or AKs).
