Lipoloysis

Lipolysis is the process of eliminating or killing fat cells through various nonsurgical techniques to reshape your body. The methods we use depend upon your expectations and location of the stubborn fat.

Laser Lipolysis - SculpSure

Destroys fat cells by overheating them. SculpSure is a device at Valley Dermatology and Aesthetics. Treatment areas include the abdomen and the flanks. Each treatment takes about 25 minutes. Multiple treatments are usually necessary. The material from the destroyed fat cells is eliminated by the lymphatic system over the course of 3 months.

Target Areas:

  • Abdomen
  • Thighs
  • Love Handles
  • Arms

Kybella®

Kybella® is the only non-surgical treatment approved by the FDA for improving the appearance of submental fullness (often referred to as “double chin”). Submental fullness can impact both men and women and can be influenced by factors such as aging, genetics and weight gain, and is often resistant to diet and exercise alone. Kybella® effectively dissolves fat under the chin, leaving a smoother jawline without the recovery time of invasive procedures like liposuction or neck lift surgery.

What is Kybella®?

The active ingredient in Kybella® is deoxycholic acid, a naturally-occurring molecule in the body that aids in the breakdown and absorption of dietary fat. When injected into the fat beneath your chin, Kybella® causes the destruction of fat cells. Once destroyed, those cells cannot store or accumulate fat.

How is a Kybella® treatment performed?

KYBELLA® is administered to the fat under the chin through a series of tiny injections. The procedure is non-invasive with minimal downtime or recovery required. Most treatments take only 15 minutes. Topical lidocaine and/or injected lidocaine can be used to minimize discomfort.

Will I experience any side effects?

Side effects are mild and temporary, including swelling, bruising, pain, numbness, redness and areas of hardness around the treatment area. Kybella® can rarely cause serious side effects, including trouble swallowing and nerve injury in the jaw that can cause an uneven smile or facial muscle weakness. Men may experience temporary loss of hair growth in the area of injections.

Are multiple treatments required?

Depending on the amount of submental fat and your desired goals, multiple treatments may be necessary. Most patients experience visible results in 2 to 4 treatment sessions. Up to 6 sessions may be administered spaced 6 weeks apart.

How long will the results last?

Kybella® causes the destruction of fat cells. Once destroyed, those cells cannot store or accumulate fat. After the aesthetic response is achieved, retreatment with Kybella® is not expected.

Who is a good candidate for Kybella®?

Kybella® is currently FDA approved only for fat under the chin. Kybella® does not treat excess or loose skin, which would require surgery.
