About MicroNeedling or Collagen Induction Therapy
The Rejuvapen™ Microneedling System we use utilizes 9 precisely spaced micro needles in a small cartridge to create invisible, vertical, micro perforations into the epidermis and the top layer of the dermis. As a result, the skin produces cytokines and growth factors that lead to remodeling of collagen and elastin. This self-repairing property of the skin is a 100% natural form of skin renewal from the inside out. Your skin becomes firmer and regains its elasticity, fine lines and wrinkles are visibly reduced, pores become firmer and smaller, circulation is stimulated, and the overall condition of the skin improves. Prior to the treatment a numbing cream will be applied, making this a very tolerable, and often painless procedure. The treatment typically lasts 15-20 minutes. Many body areas can be treated, including the face, neck, stretch marks, and surgical scars.

Is MicroNeedling for Everyone?
Although the treatment is safe for all skin types there are certain medical conditions that exclude you from having a treatment. These include active acne vulgaris, rosacea, active skin infections, raised keloid scars, actinic keratosis, and other non-melanoma & melanoma skin cancers, eczema, psoriasis, sebaceous hyperplasia and open wounds. If you suffer from severe cold sores you may wish to take your cold sore medication before each treatment. Those who are pregnant, or nursing should also not have the procedure. Your practitioner will discuss with you any health concerns you may have before you commence treatment.
What to expect after treatment
After the procedure your skin will show signs of redness and will appear similar to a moderate sunburn. You may also experience some slight swelling of the treated areas. The redness and swelling will begin to subside 24-48 hours after the treatment. By day 3 the erythema and swelling will subside and the skin takes on a pink color, and there is little residual evidence that the procedure has taken place. During the first 3 days you will also experience some skin tightness, dryness and mild sensitivity to touch on the areas that have been treated. This diminishes greatly following the treatment and over the next 2-3 days. Your practitioner will recommend appropriate skincare to help soothe and protect the skin and enhance the results. You should always use sunblock following the procedure to avoid the risk of hyperpigmentation.
